Posted by admin as Making Money, Niche Ideas
In a previous article, I talked about buying an existing niche website and I listed some possible candidates from eBay. The main benefit is that buy an existing website means that the main grunt work of putting the site together has already been done for you. You can work on your traffic driving skills and work on building backlinks to your existing website, rather than putting in effort to build the site from scratch. But there are other factors that you should consider before buying an existing website.
Buying an existing website does not mean that it is going to be an instant money maker and also does not mean that the website will automatically come with traffic, if any at all. On the other end of the spectrum, the website may already have a good Google page rank and it may already be generating a profit. So both of those factors should be considered when buying the site and when determining how much to pay for the site. On the topic of Google, you should also try to find out if the site has been indexed in Google at one time. If it is no longer in Google (meaning it has been deindexed), then you will have a much tougher time getting the site to rank again.
Although starting an online business from scratch is relatively cheap, you should also consider that purchasing an existing online business can be much cheaper than purchasing any other type of established business. The price will depend on many factors (some mentioned above), but in general you should look to spend anywhere from $100 to $1000 or maybe a little more.
There are many places to find an online business for sale. One popular place to first check is eBay. Other websites also exclusively sell other websites, such as Sitepoint. And additionally you can check other webmaster type forums, such as the Digital Point forums. Regardless where you decide to purchase and what type of business you decide on, be sure to do you due dilligence and consider some of these factors.
